Dance your way into the New Year by registering for one or more of the following dance workshops to be held on the main campus of Berkshire Community College (BCC) this Spring semester which begins Monday, January 23. Classes are taught by dance instructor, Christopher Hookie.
"Ballroom Basics for Couples - Smooth (WKS 1209) teaches the basics and exposes the roots of American social dancing in an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere. Smooth dances include: the Westchester Foxtrot, Magic Step Foxtrot, Slow and Viennese Waltz, and the Traditional Polka. To enhance versatility, dancers will dance not only to "ballroom" music but also to Country Western, Pop, Rock and Big Band tunes. Emphasis will be made in proper distinctive dance styling for all dances, leading and following techniques, and dance/music distinction. A "graduation "dance" is planned for the last class. No experience necessary. Couples only. Classes meet Monday, Jan. 23 through March 5, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Cost for registration is $35 per person.
"Beginning Country Western Dancing for Couples" (WKS-1213) teaches the basics of up to 17 of the most popular Country Western couple and partner dances performed across the nation. Single, Double, and Triple Rhythms of the Texas Two-Step, Three-Step, Schottische, Texas Ten-Step Polka, Waltz and the Cotton-Eyed Joe, Latin Two-Step, and Progressive Country. Emphasis will be made in proper dance styling, leading and following techniques, dance/music distinction and the development of dance move amalgamations. Beginning through advanced level moves and twirls will be taught using the "Dance Move Building Block method. A graduation "dance" is planned for the last day of class. Classes meet Monday, Jan. 23 through March 5, from 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM. Cost for registration is $35.00 per person.
"Line and Partner Dancing" (WKS-1240) a hands-on line dancing workshop for singles and couples. Class meets Monday, Jan. 23 through March 5 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Friday, March 9, from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Cost for registration is $30.
