‘Laced' on Display at BCC
May 14, 2012

"Laced" an exhibit by Benigna Chilla and Lisa Griffith, will be on display in the Koussevitzky Art Gallery at Berkshire Community College (BCC) from now through mid August.

Chilla, Curator at BCC, and Griffith, Professor of Visual Arts at BCC, have been working with lace from time to time independently over the last few decades. They decided to arrange their pieces together for a summer exhibition. The exhibition deals with different aspects of lace and how it can be incorporated into various art forms. The actual lace is either directly applied to a surface or used as a surface plate to print from. Lace making consists of high quality, time and effort, layers of details are moving around on a two-dimensional surface. It's charming, feminine and expensive. It has inspired fashion, is the most impractical of all fabrics, as it veils and reveals a symbol of purity and sexual allure.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. The gallery is located in BCC's Koussevitzky Arts Center. Gallery hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

For more information, email Benigna Chilla at bchilla@berkshirecc.edu or lgriffith@berkshirecc.edu.
