Berkshire County Organizations to hold Veterans Expo Nov. 15
Oct 29, 2013
A Veterans Expo will be held on Fri., Nov. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza in Pittsfield. The free event, which is for military personnel, veterans and their families, and those that serve them, will provide information on such topics as job search strategies, veteran benefits, wellness activities and behavioral health services.

U.S. Army Veteran and Director of Special Populations for the Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) Kevin Lambert will serve as the keynote speaker. Lambert suffered multiple injuries during a 16-month tour of duty in Iraq. He chose to continue his call to service by assisting other veterans who make the often difficult transition back to civilian life. He has pioneered multiple veterans' outreach efforts that have received national recognition.

The program will kick-off at 9:30 a.m. with remarks from Berkshire County legislators and politicians including: Senator Benjamin Downing, Rep. Gailanne Carridi, Rep. Paul Mark, Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier and Rep. William "Smitty" Pignatelli, as well as Pittsfield Mayor Daniel Bianchi and North Adams Mayor Richard Alcombright.

Berkshire Community College (BCC) President Ellen Kennedy, Ed.D., will introduce Lambert and will also speak about BCC's work with Veterans.

Information tables will include: Berkshire Community College, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, ServiceNet, SAVE, Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts, United Cerebal Palsy, Berkshire Works Veterans Services, HospiceCare in the Berkshires, United Personnel, Springfield Vet Center, Goodwill Industries/Suit Yourself, Molari Employment & Healthcare Services, and Balance Staffing.

This event is sponsored by the following organizations: National Alliance of Mental Illness of Berkshire County, Soldier On, Pittsfield Veteran Services, The Brien Center for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Berkshire Coalition for Suicide Prevention, Berkshire Community College and Berkshire AHEC.
