Incumbent Worker

A workforce development grant was awarded by the Division of Employment and Training Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund to bring the incumbent workers onto TECHPATH via the Applied Engineering Technology Preparation Program. This was the largest DET grant awarded in Massachusetts in the amount of $230,000. Thirty-nine (39) students graduated from this 1/2 yea-long program in June, 2001.

High Technology Curriculum

The BATC defined the need to develop a high technology curriculum for secondary and post-secondary education that would integrate local industry applications (paper, plastics and motion picture/special effects) into Math, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Animation and Engineering and to be transportable to local companies. The curriculum is being developed by a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant in the amount of $300,000.

Fiscal 2001 Labor, Health And Human Services Education Appropriations Bill Award

The Berkshire Applied Technology Council was awarded $510,000 in federal money to bolster its technical training efforts. The award enables the applied technology council to continue developing the TechPath concept and to significantly expand the number of workers participating by expanding its efforts to include Information Technology. The council will also develop distance learning capability, Community Access Television classes, an interactive web site and on-line career counseling.
