The College Application Process: One-Day

This one-day workshop is intended for high school seniors. The goal of the program is to learn about college admissions and get a jump on their college applications. Students will learn: How to research colleges and develop a list of prospective schools;  The importance of an activity sheet summing up high school achievements; Tips on the college essays and supplements; Create a Common Application account; Learn about strategies to increase their college acceptance possibilities and research student contests and scholarship opportunities.

Safe Sitter Training

Safe Sitter is a highly structured babysitting preparation course designed for young teens from ages 11-16. Teaching methodology includes hands-on manikin practice, small group interactive learning, role-playing, and games. Each participant must pass a written and practical exam proving mastery of key concepts. Instruction includes care of choking infant/child; infant and child CPR; injury prevention and injury management; safety for the sitter; child care essentials; behavior management and babysitting as a business. Space is limited so register early.

Beyond Your Back Door-The Natural History of Your Community-NEW

Have you ever seen something in a tree and wondered what it was? Are you curious about the living things in your community? Come join us as we explore the natural areas surrounding the BCC campus. We will discover, through hands-on activities and exploration, members of the animal kingdom and the role they play in the ecology of Berkshire County. The last class will meet on the BCC Nature Trail where students will, using the knowledge gained from the previous classes, perform a bio blitz of the different habitats found along the trail. The data collected will be used by the BCC Environmental Science Department. For grades 6-8. Materials list available upon registration.

Fun With Food

Fun With Food classes involve students directly in the planning, shopping and preparation of healthy delicious foods.  Each class will offer nutrition information about whole foods and hands-on cooking experience.  Students will learn about healthier alternatives to processed foods and snacks commonly available.  Our last class will be a sit-down meal with a guest of choice invited to join us. No prior cooking experience is needed - just an enthusiasm for food!  A $15 materials fee payable to the instructor at the first class.  For grades 6 - 8.

Scuba Rangers Program

Imagine your child scuba diving; learning about the underwater world...and being a part of it! In this program, children learn about safety around the water, how the water affects scuba divers, and the equipment scuba divers use to stay safe and comfortable.  They'll learn about marine life, waves, tides and currents, and how to react to new scuba diving environments.  And of course...go scuba diving!!  This program includes a Scuba Rangers Kit and Scuba-quality mask,

snorkel, and fins for them to keep.

Advanced Ranger Program

Must have completed the Scuba Rangers Program.  Kids learn their Advanced Ranger while having fun! Night Ranger:  Learn night diving skills while scuba diving in the pool...in the dark. Photography Ranger:  Practice digital underwater photography skills and learn how to use camera features for better underwater photos.  Communication Ranger:  Learn better underwater communication skills by using hand signals/sign language.  Marine ID Ranger:  Learn how to identify common fresh water and salt water marine life using identifying features and marks.  Search Ranger:  Learn basic techniques for locating missing objects underwater using buddy team efforts, line-safety, and object research.  For 8 - 12 years old Space is limited.

Dunk Out The Violence

Join us for a week-long summer program learning about peace and anti-bullying.  Students will gain knowledge in violence prevention education through role playing and motivational speakers.  They will also participate in art, music, theater, swimming and outdoor games.  This program is for 4th, 5th and 6th graders.

  Introduction to Tennis

This program is for players between the ages of 11 and 13 who are relatively new to the game of tennis. The four basic strokes will be covered in the 4  2 hour sessions.  Each session will focus on eye-hand coordination skills, basic stroke development, and practice drills in a game setting.  In addition, players will learn the basic rules of both singles and doubles play. Please bring a tennis racket.

Butterfly Adventure (For Ages 8-11)

Join us for a week-long program learning about the transformation of caterpillar to chryalis to butterfly. Young naturalists will learn about the diferent types of Berkshire butterflies and their environments. Field trips, laboratory exercises, internet explorations, and much more will provide fun and enhance learning.

 It’s Tee Time – an Introduction to Golf

Designed for the junior wishing to learn the game or improve on his or her skills. The program will also include nature activities, games, swimming activities, etiquette, leadership and loads of fun!  For kids ages 6 - 15.  Bring a lunch (no peanut butter or nuts of any kind please), sunscreen and hats.
