BCC Art Gallery to Feature "Karylee Doubiago"
Dec 14, 2009

Berkshire Community College's gallery at the Intermodal Transportation Center at 1 Columbus Avenue in downtown Pittsfield is featuring an exhibit by Karylee Doubiago now through Jan. 5. An opening reception is scheduled for Saturday evening, Dec. 12, from 4:30 to 6:30. The reception will be followed by a benefit art raffle from 7 to 9 in conjunction with the Storefront Artist Project.

Doubiago's quilts are a mix of photography paints, dyes, threadwork and fabric manipulation. According to the artist, quilting has always appealed to her. "There is a sense of comfort, warmth and texture in traditional quilts that drew me in to working with fiber," she said. Her current work focuses "on exploring the internal views of the human mind and the internal physical body landscape."

She has been published in such books as "Creative Quilting," "1000 Artist Trading Cards," and "Innovative Fabric Imagery for Quilts." The artist has also been published in such magazines as "Creative Machine Embroidery" and Art Doll Quarterly." In addition to winning first and second place award at the Berkshire Quilt Festival, Doubiago has participated in numerous other exhibitions including international quilt festivals in Chicago, Costa Rica, Florida, and Houston.

A graduate of Mt. Greylock Regional High School, Doubiago received an associates degree from BCC in Selected Studies (Business), a Photography Certificate from Rhode Island School of Photography, and a BFA in Photography from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.

Attendance at the exhibit, reception and raffle is free and open to the public.
