Jan 21, 2010

"Mousetrap," an animation with an installation by Minako Shirakura, will be on display in the Koussevitzky Art Gallery at Berkshire Community College from now through Friday, March 5.

Shirakura will discuss the exhibit Monday, Jan. 25 at noon in K-116. Forum credit is available for BCC students attending the discussion.  Shirakura states "If I were to compare this work to a pot of soup, I would say that this enchanted feeling is the soup stock which decides the foundation of the taste, and some playfulness and a sense of unease art the area of spices."

Minako Shirakura studied at Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland, where she received a BA as well as a postgraduate diploma in design and applied arts. She also holds an MFA in sculpture/dimensional studies from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She has exhibited her work in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States. Recently, she was awarded two Visual Arts fellowships (2007-8 and 2008-9) at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The gallery is located in BCC's Koussevitzky Arts Center.
