Art/Personal Growth Workshops to be Held at BCC

Berkshire Community College will offer the following workshops this summer at its South County Center in Great Barrington.

"Clay Works" (WKS 1593) a new workshop, teaches students to form shapes and figures with self hardening clay. Participants create their own piece of art and bring the clay to life using their imagination. Class meets Tuesday evening, June 8 through June 22, from 6 to 8. Cost for registration is $60.

"Drawing and Painting with Oil Pastels" (WKS 048) explores the richness of drawing with color using various techniques such as brushes, rags and paper towels. Students create work ranging from bright, tense primary colors to velvety earth tones. Class meets Tuesday morning, June 8 through June 29, from 9 to 12. Cost for registration is $120.

"Lite Relief: Easy Etching" (WKS 1592) teaches participants to transfer images of their choice to slate. Students learn to carve using household items such as a screwdriver, nail or pencil. Class meets Thursday evening, June 10 through June 24, from 6 to 8. Cost for registration is $60.

"Antiques 101" (WKS 101) explains how to distinguish a ‘real' antique from a fake. Participants learn the ‘language' of antiques and collectibles and how to figure cost versus retail. The art/science of appraisal is also introduced. Class meets Wednesday evening, June 16 through July 14, from 7 to 9. Cost for registration is $105.

"Hand Quilting" (WKS 258) a progression of needlecraft skills, experiments with shape, color and design. Students make a quilted six-block wall hanging composed of various chosen patterns. Topics include a review of sewing stitches, arranging color, block cutting and assembly, sandwiching layers, and quilting stitches. Class meets Tuesday, June 22 through Aug. 24, from 1 to 3:30. Cost for registration is $225.

"Still Life with Oils and Acrylics" (WKS 1591) a new workshop, shows students how to make sketches with either charcoal or oil pastels, then move on to making a dynamic, brightly colored, still life with oil or acrylics on canvas. Class meets Tuesday morning, July 6 through Aug. 24, from 9 to 12. Cost for registration is $225.

"Cartooning Made Easy" (WKS 1594) designed for children ages 9 to 12, an easy to learn workshop, has fun with cartooning by taking shapes and forming them into characters. Class meets Thursday morning, July 7 through July 21, from 10 to 12. Cost for registration is $60.
