Berkshire Community College (BCC) will offer the following workshops at its South County Center in Great Barrington this fall.
"Introduction to Photography (Digital and Film)" (WKS 2235) designed for the enthusiastic beginner, focuses on the essentials necessary to get started in the photographic process. Participants learn to manually create a correct exposure using aperture, shutter speed and ISO. They are introduced to the full range of camera basics from image capture and editing to different file type, film and workflow issues. Students learn methods for composing, printing, and storage. Participants must bring their digital or film SLR, or point and shoot camera (with manual), and paper for printing photographs. Classes meet Friday, Sept. 17 through Oct. 8, from 12:30 to 3:30 PM.
"Intermediate Photography - People and Places in Autumn" (WKS 2236) helps students create unique images, and further refine technical and aesthetic skills. Working with landscapes and portraits, students complete exercises in composition, lighting, depth of field and editing. Classes will take place both in the classroom and on location. This course is for students who have taken Introduction to Photography, or have equivalent beginner photographic knowledge. Participant must bring their camera with manual mode, digital or film, and paper for printing photographs. Fee includes the cost of live models, however, students must pay any entrance fees to shoot locations. Classes meet Friday, Oct. 15 through Nov. 5, from 12:30 to 3:30 PM.
"The Fictionalized Memoir" (WKS 962) is a combination of memoir writing plus the use of fictional devices. Writers will be given weekly exercises to help develop their fictionalized memoir. These pieces will be read aloud and critiqued every week in an intimate, supportive atmosphere. Classes meet Thursday evenings, Sept. 23 through Dec. 9, from 6 to 8:30 PM.
"Conversational French I" (WKS 208) an introduction to French, is appropriate for beginners and those who want to brush up on basic French. Students practice speaking, reading, and listening to simple French. En route, they pick up vocabulary, elementary grammar and knowledge of French culture. Classes meet Tuesday evenings, Sept. 14 through Nov. 16, from 7 to 9 PM.
