BCC Announces Spring Workshop Offerings
Feb 7, 2011

The following workshops will be offered at the South County Center of Berkshire Community College (BCC) this spring.

"Figure Drawing and Portrait Basics" (WKS-1596), a new workshop for beginners, is a basic understanding of figure drawing and portraiture. This course includes basic anatomy, gesture, stance, drawing techniques, figure collage, proportion and likeness. Instruction will employ the use of photographs and each other. Materials needed for class are a large newsprint pad, charcoal sticks and graphite pencils (#6-9), a kneaded eraser, and one set of soft color pastels. Classes meet Friday, March 11 through April 15 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Cost for registration is $120.

"Becoming Berkshire: Pre-Revolution and Revolutionary Berkshire" (WKS-2344) discusses what it was like living in Berkshire County 250 years ago. This year Berkshire County, Pittsfield and Great Barrington celebrate their 250th birthday. All three were founded in 1761. This workshop will take a look at life in Berkshire in 1761, how it was very different and, surprisingly, how some things never change. Classes meet Monday, and Wednesday, March 14 through March 21, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM Cost for registration is $60.

"Introduction to Fiction Writing - Find Your Voice" (WKS-959), a creative writing workshop, encourages and guides writers to explore the many facets of fiction. Students read short stories, engage in writing exercised in class and at home, and study the use of detail, point of view, scene vs. narration, dialogue, and other important aspects of creative writing. Classes meet Tuesday, March 8 through April 12, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Cost for registration is$120.

"Intermediate Photography - People and Places in Spring" (WKS-2236) helps students create more unique images and further refines technical and aesthetic skills. Working with landscapes and portraits, participants complete exercises in composition, lighting, depth of field and editing. Classes will take place both in the classroom and on location. This course is for students who have taken Introduction to Photography, or have equivalent beginner photographic knowledge. Bring your camera with manual mode, digital or film, and paper for printing photographs. The fee of $150 includes the cost of live models, however, students must pay any entrance fees to shoot locations. Classes meet Thursday, April 14 through May5, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
