Summer Workshops Held at BCC's South County Center
Apr 25, 2011

The following workshops will be offered at the South County Center of Berkshire Community College (BCC) this summer.

"Introduction to Photography - Digital and Film" (WKS-2235) designed for the enthusiastic beginner, focuses on the essentials necessary to get started in the photographic process. Participants learn to manually create a correct exposure using aperture, shutter speed and ISO. They are introduced to the full range of camera basics from image capture and editing to different file type, film and workflow issues. Students learn methods for composing, printing, and storage. Participants must bring their digital or film SLR, or point and shoot camera (with manual), and paper for printing photographs. Classes meet Wednesday, June 1 through June 22, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Cost for registration is $125.

"Color Studio and Application for Beginner Artists" (WKS-1598) a new workshop, focuses on the practical use of color to make art. Students will review the color wheel, color harmonies and basic color theories and employ a variety of color schemes and harmonies so see the visual impact of specific color combinations. Classes meet Friday, June 3 through June 24, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Cost for registration is $80.

"Antiques 101" (WKS-2100) teaches participants the language of antiques, the methods of buying and selling and the legal requirements with which a dealer is confronted. The evolution of the designs of 18th and 19th century furniture and other decorative arts, as well as the auction and appraisal processes, will be covered. Classes meet Wednesday, June 8 through July 27, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Cost for registration is $150.

"Becoming Berkshire: Pre-Revolution and Revolutionary Berkshire" (WKS-2344) discusses what it was like living in Berkshire County 250 years ago. This year Berkshire County, Pittsfield and Great Barrington celebrate their 250th birthday. All three were founded in 1761. This workshop will take a look at life in Berkshire in 1761, how it was very different and, surprisingly, how some things never change. Classes meet Monday, and Wednesday, June 13 through June 20, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Cost for registration is $60.
