The South County Center of Berkshire Community College (BCC) will offer the following workshops this summer.
"Hand Quilting" (WKS 258) a progression of needlecraft skills, experiments with shape, color and design. Students make a quilted six-block wall hanging composed of various chosen patterns. Topics include a review of sewing stitches, arranging color, block cutting and assembly, sandwiching layers, and quilting stitches. Class meets Tuesday, June 21 through August 23, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Cost for registration is $175.
"Introductory Fiction Writing Class - Find Your Voice" (WKS 959) a creative writing workshop that encourages and guides writers to explore the many facets of fiction. Participants read stories, engage in writing exercises in class and at home, and study the use of detail, point of view, scene vs. narration, dialogue, and other important aspects of creative writing. Classes meet Tuesday, July 12 through August 16, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Cost for registration is $120.
"Problem Solving and Creating Graphic Design" (WKS 2512) uses pencil, paper, and sketching to get the real feel behind a graphic design concept. This workshop makes students aware of how layout creates organization, how design sends a message to harness the power of each through critical and creative thinking. Classes meet Tuesday, July 5 through July 26, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Cost for registration is $80.
"Exploring the Basics of Graphic Design and Typography for Small Businesses" (WKS 2513) a continuation of "Problem Solving and Creating Graphic Design" WKS 2512), explores the basics of grids, types, design and layout. Students will work on solving business problems by creating individual solutions without the use of software. Classes meet Tuesday, August 2 through August 23, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Cost for registration is $80.
