BCC Swimming Pool to Open for the Season
Jul 15, 2011
After a three week delay, the swimming pool at Berkshire Community College (BCC) will officially open for the season on Monday, July 18, 2011. The facilities will be open to the community free of charge on weekends for the remainder of the season.

The delay was due to filter failure. Upon discovery of the situation, Imperial Pools was hired to remove the filter media, inspect the existing assemblies for damage and install a new assembly. Once the system was repaired, the water was shocked and tested to ensure the utmost safety for swimmers.

"We are terribly disappointed to be opening the BCC Swimming Pool so late in the season," said Ellen Kennedy, BCC's Vice President for Administration and Finance. "We recognize how important the facility is to both our students and the community and have decided to waive fees for weekends during the summer."

The college has also reduced the weekday (Monday through Friday) rates from $5 to $2 per person for the season. BCC students receive free admission with a valid student ID.

Daily hours of operation for the facility will be 12-6 PM and a certified lifeguard will be on duty at all times. The pool, which is handicapped accessible, goes from 3.5 to 8 feet deep and is roughly 70 feet long. Male and female locker rooms, equipped with showers, are also available.

The pool was renovated with generous support from the community including Pittsfield Family YMCA, The Fitzpatrick Companies, Greylock Federal Credit Union, Berkshire Bank Foundation, Legacy Banks Foundation and The Pittsfield Cooperative Bank.
