BCC Art Gallery to Feature ‘Paintings for Airports'
Aug 17, 2011

"Paintings for Airports," an exhibit by Edward Pelkey, will be on display during the month of September at Berkshire Community College's (BCC) gallery at the Intermodal Transportation Center on the corner of North St. and Columbus Ave. in Pittsfield.

The works in "Paintings for Airports" are a collection that represents over ten years of work. Utilizing classical painting techniques with non-traditional subject matter engages the senses, inviting the viewer to move in closer to ponder not only motivation and meaning, but to explore the deeply woven textures in each work. Gallery hours are from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Pelkey moved to New York City I 1997 where he worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a security guard and spent countless hours in the galleries, drawing. During this time, he also studied at The Art Students' League. Inspired by the great masters such as Velasquez and Caravaggio, Pelkey has also been deeply influenced by cubism, Neo expressionist movement, film, comics, and electronic music. All these art forms synthesize his paintings.

A reception will take place on Thursday, September 15 at BCC's gallery from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM during Third Thursday. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
