BCC’s Norman Rockwell Early Childhood Center to Temporarily Occupy Space at BHS
Oct 12, 2011
The Norman Rockwell Early Childhood Center at Berkshire Community College (BCC) will temporarily occupy space at Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) from October 11 through October 24 while the center is repainted and its windows and doors are replaced. The renovations are part of BCC's campus-wide exterior repair project which will both weatherize and seal the buildings. The project is part of a college-wide initiative to create a greener, more energy efficient campus.

BHS graciously stepped forward to offer assistance to BCC and the daycare families so that childcare services were not disrupted. During the renovation period, the center will operate out of the former Bright Horizon's facility, located at 742 North Street in Pittsfield.

Open to BCC students, faculty and staff members as well as the community, the center was designed to allow parents to attend classes and work while their children are participating in the Center's comprehensive educational and recreational programs. The center has earned accreditation by the National Academy of Early Childhood Education (N.A.E.Y.C.) for having demonstrated substantial compliance with nationally recognized Criteria for high-quality early childhood programs. While at the Center, the children receive snacks in the morning and afternoon, and can share meals with their parents. Additionally, social workers provide extra help for children with special needs.

Named because of the artist's sensitive portrayal of the world of children, the Center is open between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Children from age 15 months to 7 years of age are eligible to attend. For more information on the center, please call 499-4660, extension 3061.
