Ukrainian Faculty Visit Pittsfield
Oct 13, 2011
A group of five faculty members from five Ukrainian universities will be visiting Pittsfield from October 14-22 through the federally-funded Open World Program.

Berkshire Community College (BCC) is the local sponsor for the professional exchange program through which the Ukrainian delegates will have an opportunity to observe the American education system and meet with their professional counterparts at BCC, Williams College and the University of Massachusetts. The Ukrainians visitors will also have a chance to observe the Pittsfield special election for state representative on October 18, experience the rich cultural life of the Berkshires, and visit with officials and faculty at Pittsfield High School and Miss Hall's School.

The public is invited to meet the Ukrainian delegates at an open, interactive meeting on Thursday evening, October 20, at 7 PM at BCC. The Ukrainians will speak about their own education system, and will welcome the opportunity to answer questions from BCC students and the general public about their country and their experiences while here in the United States.

The Open World Leadership Program is an international professional exchange program that brings small delegations of emerging leaders from Eurasia to the U.S. to experience American-style democracy, civil society and community life. The delegates are home hosted by volunteers in local communities. Open World is active in Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
