BCC TRIO Program Announces New Opportunity for Legal Assistance
Nov 28, 2011

The TRIO Program (Talent, Resources, Initiative, and Opportunity) at Berkshire Community College (BCC) announces a new partnership with Community Legal Aid (CLA) of Western Massachusetts (formerly Western Mass Legal Services) for a new opportunity for Legal Assistance to students who are low income, first generation or disabled.

Beginning November 7, Michael Morelli, of Community Legal Aid of Western Massachusetts, will be available to provide legal support to BCC TRIO students. Mr. Morelli will be on campus on Mondays or students may schedule a meeting at Community Legal Aid's downtown office.  Community Legal Aid is a legal services organization that provides free legal assistance for income-eligible Berkshire County residents. CLA's areas of practice include: Immigration, Family, Housing, Unemployment Compensation, Public Benefits (Food stamps/SNAP, TAFDC, EAEDC, Veteran's Services, Mass Health) SSI/SSDI, and Elder Law.

This collaboration is of great service to TRIO students, many of whom do not drive, because it allows them to access legal counsel without having to interrupt their academic or work schedules. This is a great opportunity for students with the most need to get the help and support to make it through these difficult times.

Michael Morelli can be reached at 413-499-1950 or at 152 North Street, E-155, Pittsfield, MA  01201.
