BCC Art Gallery to Feature ‘Prints'
Mar 19, 2012

"Prints," an exhibit by Elizabeth Came, is on display now through April 5 at Berkshire Community College's (BCC) gallery at the Intermodal Transportation Center on the corner of North St. and Columbus Ave. in downtown Pittsfield. Gallery hours are Monday and Friday, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Thursday, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Elizabeth Came is an artist and student living in Hinsdale, Massachusetts. She has always loved telling stories with art, and works with whatever she can get her hands on, but most often creates in drawing, painting, and printmaking. Her work explores the natural forms of the landscape as well as personal and cultural mythology, and spirituality. She received an Associates in visual arts from Berkshire Community College in 2011 and when she is not walking in the woods she is studying art and religion at Hampshire College in Amherst.

Came states "I'm drawn to the woods- the trees, rocks, hills, and rivers- and what I find there. The land is a source of inspiration and also obsession- what are these forms that occur again and again throughout the natural world? What do they mean to us?

I created this body of prints with these organic patterns- the repetitions of the woods- in mind. Through layers of image put down in multiple printings, I was able to build up a density of form and color as well as a sense of growth and movement. In these pieces landscape is abstractly spiritual, and at the same time a specific, intimate experience of texture and pattern.

After spending time at Berkshire Community College, I'm attending Hampshire College in Amherst, where my studies focus on visual art and religion".
