BCC Music Instructor a Quarterfinalist in First-ever Music Educator Award
Aug 31, 2013

Jeff Link, a music instructor at Berkshire Community College (BCC), has been selected as a quarterfinalist for the first-ever Music Educator Award presented by The Recording Academy® and the GRAMMY Foundation®. Link is one of more than 200 music teachers from 195 cities across 45 states to be selected as a quarterfinalist.

The Music Educator Award was established to recognize educators, including K-12, college, and public and private schools, who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools.

Award submissions were accepted from a variety of sources including: students, parents, friends, colleagues, community members, school administrators, or the teachers themselves. Nominated teachers were notified and invited to fill out an application.

Link, who has been a part-time instructor at BCC for approximately three years, also teaches at MCLA. Nominated by a student he mentored, Link was selected as a quarterfinalist from more than 30,000 initial nominations.

In addition to teaching, Link serves as the curriculum coordinator & associate director of Rock On! Young Musicians Workshop, an intensive two week program of  instrument training, playing in bands, songwriting, recording, and performing. Located at BCC, the program welcomes students of all ages and playing

"I'm honored to have been nominated and selected as a quarterfinalist for the Music Educator award," said Link.  "If I am selected as the winner, I will use the prize money to further my education by pursuing a master's degree in music composition."

Ten semifinalists will be announced sometime later this month. One finalist will be selected to receive a $10K honorarium and will be recognized at the Grammy Awards Ceremony held in Los Angeles on Jan. 26, 2014.
