Business entrepreneurs or professionals wishing to brush up on their skills are invited to register for one or more of the following workforce development workshops being held at Berkshire Community College (BCC) this fall.
The following workshops meet on BCC's main campus on West Street.
"Design Drawing for Professionals" (WKS-2103) is created specifically for architects and interior designers, however is useful for other designers and artists who need to delineate three-dimensional space as an integral part of their creative process. Students will learn to accurately and quickly portray three-dimensional spaces using freehand sketching techniques. Classes meet Mondays, Sept. 23 through Nov. 14, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Cost for registration is $180.
"Life Sciences for Body Artists" (WKS-286) covers body art and relevant aspects of anatomy, physiology, and microbiology. While focusing on common tattooing and piercing techniques, the workshop explores a variety of cosmetic skin alterations. Classes meet Wednesdays, Sept. 18 through Oct. 2, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Cost for registration is $90.
"Phlebotomy Technician Program" (WKS-1164) prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 7 through Feb. 3, from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Cost for registration is$1,599.
The following workshops meet at the Intermodal Education Center in downtown Pittsfield.
"Certified Fiber Optics Training" (WKS-1344) a new introductory 3-day course, prepares students to become a Fiber Optics Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician. Participants will learn fiber optic basics, components, installation, testing and standards. Classes meet Thurs., 10/3 through Sat., 10/5, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Cost for registration is $695.
"Green and Sustainable Business Practices" (WKS-2309) a one session workshop, covers seasonal menu planning featuring regional ingredients and developing business relationships with local food vendors. It also discusses food safety topics, food composing solutions and the use of eco-friendly products that will reduce your operations' environmental impact and better market your business. Class meets Tues., 10/8, from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Location is to be determined. Cost for registration is $75.
"Think You Want to be a Professional Organizer?" (WKS-1177) teaches participants what professional organizers do, what the industry is all about and how you can become a professional organizer. The class is taught by Helen Volk, President of Beyond Clutter and the Capital District of New York's Premier Organizer. Class meets Sat., Sept. 21, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Cost for registration is $75.
