New MIDI Lab to Enhance BCC Music Courses
Jun 16, 2009

Berkshire Community College is in the process of installing a new state-of-the-art MIDI Lab. Thanks to the generous support of the BCC Foundation, the new laboratory, located in Koussevitzky Hall, will feature a 12-station workspace.

Yamaha P-85 electronic pianos will be connected to 12 desktop computers integrated into a local network controlled by a single instructor's console.  Software applications available for study and use will include (1) Practica Musica, a music theory & sight singing/ear training application; (2) Finale, the world's leading music notation software; and (3) Sonar 8 Producer, an industry standard music recording software used by recording studios throughout the world..

Installation of the new laboratory is expected to be completed by the end of June, and with the opening of classes in the fall of 2009, all relevant music courses will take advantage of this new facility.  A separate new course in Sonar will be offered beginning in the spring semester of the 2009-2010 school year.  The midi lab will be used to enhance instruction in various music courses taught at the college and will be available to music and non-music majors.
