Arab American Institute Leader to Present 9/11 Retrospective at BCC
Sep 9, 2011
On Tuesday, September 13, Berkshire Community College (BCC) will host Healing our Nation: a retrospective on politics, tolerance and security since 9/11. The program will be held in room K111 on BCC's main campus in Pittsfield at 12:15 PM. The event is free and open to the public.

Back in April 2001, Helen Hatab Samhan, then executive director of the Washington D.C. based Arab American Institute, received an invitation to speak at BCC on September 20, 2001. By the time of her talk, the terrible and historic events of 9/11 dramatically changed the course and context of her presentation. A decade later, Ms. Samhan returns to BCC to discuss the impact 9/11 has had on the life of Arabs and Muslims in America, on our nation's political discourse, and on our ability as a society to preserve cultural tolerance and respect in the face of adversity. Ms. Samhan has been an advocate and researcher on this ethnic community for over 30 years.
