The following workshops will be held at the South County Center of Berkshire Community College (BCC) this fall.
"Drawing I" (WKS-1631) enables artists, through observation of nature, to translate the 3-dimensional world to a 2 dimensional plane. Learning to see the play of light and dark on surfaces, developing an awareness of spatial relations and depth, and recognizing proportions will be emphasized. Simple and basic techniques using varying materials will help participants enjoy drawing from nature. Landscapes, still life, figures and animal drawing will be explored. Classes meet Mondays, Sept. 24 through Nov. 5, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Cost for registration is $150.
"Drawing II" (WKS-1632) is a follow up to Drawing I with more in-depth attention to the needs of each student and opportunity to use more advanced techniques. Classes meet Mondays, Nov. 12 through Dec. 17, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Cost for registration is $150.
"Life Lines - Writing for Life" (WKS-919) explores how deadlines are really lifelines for writers. Participants are assigned weekly exercises, increasing their output as they learn techniques of craft and discipline. Classes meet Thursdays, Sept. 27 through Dec. 6, from 6:15 PM to 8:45 PM. Cost for registration is $225.
"Back to Drawing" (WKS-1633) teaches students drawing techniques using graphite, charcoal and pen, brush and ink. The workshop covers classic techniques such as contour drawing, shading variations and line drawing. Subjects include shapes, still life and nature as well as composition. Classes meet Fridays, Oct. 5 through Oct. 26, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Cost for registration is $80.
"Introduction to Fiction" (WKS-959) encourages and guides writers in their exploration of the many facets of fiction. Students read short stories and engage in writing exercises in class and at home. Classes meet Wednesdays, Oct. 3 through Oct. 31, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Cost for registration is $75.
