Furthering my education and working in a different system and culture was my dream when I moved to the United States twelve years ago. However, as a mother, I could not find the necessary amount of time or funds for myself to pursue another degree. During the spring of 2014, I began considering my options for taking more classes at Berkshire Community College the following semester.

When I received the Foundation Grant, it felt like I had wings to fly! That grant opened up more opportunities for me to pursue my education and dreams without any burdens or worries. I always need to remind myself and my children that there is nothing that is unreachable. You need to work hard and overcome challenges to achieve your goals. I have to say to my fellow student too that lots of times we are exhausted or desperate, but there is a lot of help available, you just need to believe in yourself and reach for help; any dream is attainable. Good Luck

Receiving the ABE Educational Opportunity Grant made me feel very fortunate, and it was a huge blessing. I decided to buy a Mac computer, which I thought would be very helpful for my education, not just for me but my daughter as well. It also helps me to learn how to use a Mac. With this computer, I can do my assignments and presentations more easily and quickly. It has also permitted me to be up to date with technology.

I would tell other students never to give up and never to stop dreaming. It is possible to start a career here in the United States, even though English is our second language and we may not have enough financial resources to pay for education. We have a lot of support around us, and we all have the potentials to do great things and create a better future for ourselves and our families.

I am incredibly grateful for the assistance in paying for my education. As an international student, this scholarship means a lot as a stepping stone to achieve heights in my career. This money will help me to reach my goals of becoming a college graduate and succeeding in my future. This scholarship gives me additional help to pay for my classes as part of my culinary arts career; the laptop will help me on my journey. I can only hope other students recognize this honor and apply for this scholarship too.
