The Berkshire Community College Foundation is a 501(c)3, non-profit corporation, organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Foundation, which is fiscally and legally separate from the College, was established to foster and promote the growth, progress and general welfare of Berkshire Community College in accordance with its mission.
The Foundation is governed by a board of volunteer directors who work on behalf of the college. The board members are from various communities throughout Berkshire County and surrounding areas and are committed to improving learning opportunities for students.
The Foundation solicits, receives, invests, and administers gifts and donations from alumni, students, businesses, friends, the community and the college staff, that are used to further the college's commitment to academic excellence. As a result, the Foundation is able to provide modern and progressive equipment, professional development for faculty, infrastructure improvements, scholarships and other academic opportunities to enhance the teaching and learning environment.
Massachusetts community colleges have traditionally relied on state appropriations for their operations. However the budget shortfalls and the public policy commitment to controlling tuition and fees has affirmed the need to seek alternate funding sources to provide the college with the funds and resources to further its mission.
A large portion of the funds donated are endowed and as a result live on in perpetuity. These funds are invested and the interest is used to assist students. Other donated funds are applied directly in accordance with the donors intended purpose. Gifts can be restricted for a particular purpose, or if unrestricted, can be applied where the college sees the greatest need.
The Foundation owns and operates a building in Great Barrington that is the site of the college's South County Center, and is a landlord for three private businesses.
The Berkshire Community College Foundation has made a tremendous impact on the lives of students. Please see our many opportunities for giving.
