Special Programs - Berkshire Honors Scholar Program
  • Are you interested in a challenge?
  • Would you like to take rigorous courses that engage the intellect?
  • Would you like to meet other like-minded students?

Then you should consider joining the Berkshire Honors Scholar Program.

The Berkshire Honors Scholars Program at BCC provides a creative and challenging student-driven experience. It is designed for academically talented and highly motivated students who are interested in courses that ask students to go a bit further, to look a bit more deeply, and to work more independently.

If you join the program you will participate in academically rigorous cross-disciplinary honors colloquia (as well as other honors courses). These seminar style courses take a broader perspective on a topic and use the tools of two or more disciplines. Past colloquia include "Sustainable Ecotourism in the Berkshires," "The Philosophy of the Life Sciences," and "Seventeenth Century Thought." What all of these topics have in common is that they provide a broad base of understanding that goes well beyond the subject material. They provide you with a crucial knowledge that will connect to and support many other courses that you take and they provide you with important analytical and critical thinking skills that are crucial to academic and workplace success.

In addition, students in the program get together with the Honors Coordinator and program faculty at least twice a year to have lunch, chat about the program and discuss their academic plans. You can also stop by and meet with the Honors Coordinator to discuss course selection, transfer plans, how to pick a major, or just talk. In addition to a great academic background, the program helps you join a community.

When you graduate from the Honors Program you will be especially well prepared for the challenges that await you as you continue your academic training or enter the workforce.
