Special Programs - CVTE Linkage Initiative

The overarching goal of the Career Vocational Technical Education (CVTE) Linkage Initiative is to "link" high school career and technical programs with related programs at BCC and other local colleges.  BCC is the lead agency for the Berkshire CVTE Linkage Consortium, a partnership of area colleges, 8 public high schools in Berkshire County with designated vocational and/or career programs, and local employers.
Member high schools include:

Charles H. McCann Technical High School
Drury High School
Monument Mountain Regional High School
Mt. Everett Regional High School
Mt. Greylock Regional High School
Pittsfield High School
Taconic High School
Wahconah Regional High School

Other Berkshire County high schools are invited to participate in Linkage projects and activities on a space available basis.

The Linkage Initiative offers high school students an opportunity to explore career options in technical fields that require at least a two-year associate degree; and to visit area colleges to learn more about the programs that interest them. Beginning in high school, students map out an educational plan that combines strong academics with technical courses and/or work-based experiences. The CVTE Linkage Initiative collaborates with several BCC departments to offer programs and activities that help ensure that graduating high school seniors are well prepared for their postsecondary experience.

Many students may be able to receive college credit for some of their high school coursework under the terms of 2 + 2 articulation agreements between the college and their high school. These agreements result in non-duplicative programs of study wherein students earn BCC credit while still in high school.

Selected BCC programs that may result in earning college credit include Allied Health, Business Administration, Business Careers, Computer Information Systems, Culinary Arts, Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, and Hospitality Administration. High school CVTE Linkage students are also encouraged to participate in BCC's Bridge to College or Dual Enrollment program during their junior or senior year as a way to earn college credit while exploring a potential career, or simply to get a jump start on college requirements.

For more information about the CVTE Linkage Initiative, students and/or parents may contact their high school guidance counselor or the CVTE Linkage Coordinator at BCC (413-236-2180 or via email at jhannum@berkshirecc.edu).
