BCC's Green Team coordinates efforts to reduce the College's carbon footprint, maintain sustainable practices, seek funding to carry out initiatives, and coordinate these efforts with other colleges and institutions. Green Team members include faculty, staff, students, and some members of the community. The Green Team meets monthly, and all are welcome to join! For more information, contact Laura Saldarini, BCC Green Team Chair.
Berkshire Community College has a goal of Zero Waste by the year 2020. This involves long-term planning of campus activities, practices and policies which reduce the amount of waste materials going into the landfill. One of the ways we measure our progress is by participating in the annual Recyclemania contest, through which we've calculated that our current waste diversion rate is 81%. This means about four-fifths of our waste is being diverted from trash through re-use, recycling, and composting. With everyone's help, we could be the first college to no longer use large trash dumpsters!
Your participation is essential in helping the College reach this goal. For waste reduction tips, visit The Center for EcoTechnology.
