Indexing for over 4,500 scholarly publications covering social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, and ethnic studies.

Academic OneFile - Thomson Gale
Academic Onefile contains 8,000 academic journals, the majority in full-text, available in HTML and PDF formats. In addition it contains hundreds of podcasts and transcripts from NPR, CNN, and the CBC, as well as full-text New York Times content to 1995.

African-American History Online Facts On File
Provides expansive and in-depth information on the people, events, and topics important to the study of African-American history. This site includes biographical information, primary sources, maps and timelines,a spotlight providing an in-depth look at a topic such as the Harlem Renaissance and The Exhibit of American Negroes, Paris 1900: a reconstruction of highlights from an exhibit at the 1900 World's Fair.

American History Online Facts On File
Spans more than 500 years of political, military, social, and cultural history, highlighting the important people and events of the American experience. This site features biographies, events and topics, primary sources, maps, timelines and unique "learning centers" to help researchers searching for initial results.

American Women's History Online Facts On File
Covers the important people, events, legislation, and issues relevant to the study of women's history in the United States. Users can search for entries by keyword or phrase. They can browse by topic and by time period—from nine historical periods relevant specifically to women's history. In addition, Biographies can be browsed by occupation, and Primary Sources by type.

Americas Magazines (Formerly Newsbank) Newsbank
Coverage of U.S. and international news, business, lifestyle, entertainment, sports, and science and technology from familiar magazines. Included here are such popular titles as Sports Illustrated, Forbes, People and Family Life. Also included here is a link to the Springfield Republican through Newsbank. Biography Resource Center + The Complete Maquis Who's Who Infotrac Thomson Gale
This database combines award-winning biographies from respected Gale Group sources. Biography Resource Center also includes full-text articles from hundreds of periodicals. Over 422,000 full-text biographies are included in this database.

The Biomedical Reference Collection: Basic EBSCOHost
Access to 100 full text journals covering clinical medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system and the pre-clinical sciences. Full text journals are also indexed in MEDLINE.

Book Index With Reviews EBSCOHost
Book Index with Reviews is a comprehensive database that provides information on over 3.8 million book titles in a wide range of formats, including large print, books on tape, etc. Fiction and non-fiction titles are included in the database, in all genres.

Our most extensive Business Database, it indexes over 3000 scholarly business journals covering management, economics, finance, accounting, international business and more. Many articles are in full-text.

CINAHL EBSCOHost
CINAHL, the Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature, is the authorative resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers. This database provides indexing and abstracting for over 1600 nursing, allied health and health sciences journals; over 350 journals are full text.

Contemporary Literary Criticism Thomson Gale
Full text collection of critical essays on contemporary authors.

Credo Reference Credo/XREFER

Educators Reference Complete Thomson Gale
Educator's Reference Complete is a selection of more than 450 full-text academic journals, hundreds of full-text reports, and many premier reference sources. Included content focuses on educational principles, child development and psychology, and best practices in education. Majority of the full-text titles included are also found in the ERIC database.

ERIC EBSCOHost
ERIC®, the Educational Resource Information Center, provides access to education literature and resources. This database provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. ERIC provides full text of more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 1,000 educational and education-related journals.

Indexing for journals, magazines and newspapers covering arts, humanities, social sciences, science and technology; some articles are full text and include images.

Film Literature Index Online
University Of Indiana
Indexes 150 film and television periodicals from 30 countries cover-to-cover and 200 other periodicals selectively for articles on film and television. The FLI Online contains approximately 700,000 citations to articles, film reviews and book reviews published between 1976-2001.

Provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries. Searchable by subject or keywords within the entry. Meets the research needs of elementary, middle, and high school students.

Gale Virtual Reference Library Thomson Gale
Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. These reference materials once were accessible only in the library, but now you can access them online from the library or remotely 24/7.

General Business File ASAP Thomson Gale
Analyze company performance and activity, industry events and trends as well as the latest in management, economics and politics.

General Reference Center Gold Thomson Gale
Use this general interest database to search magazines, reference books, and newspapers for information on current events, popular culture, the arts and sciences, sports, and more.

GeoScience World - abstracts
GeoScience World (GSW) provides access to scientifically peer-reviewed articles from high impact geoscience publications. Search the database and view the titles and abstracts of articles. The full text articles are available only to subscribers, but you can order them through interlibrary loan by bringing the citation to the circulation desk of the Jonathan Edwards Library.

GreenFiles EBSCOHost
GreenFILE offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records, as well as Open Access full text for more than 4,700 records

GroveArt
Grove Art Online contains the full-text of The Dictionary of Art — the landmark encyclopedia of world art. Grove Art Online also includes all 2,800 articles from The Oxford Companion to Western Art [OCWA] and continues to offer new content . Grove Art Online offers over 1500 colour images and line drawings; links to the Art Resource searchable image database; and links to over 40,000 images on museum and gallery websites.

Lexis-Nexis - Academic
LexisNexis® provides authoritative legal, news, public records and business information; including tax and regulatory publications in online formats. It delivers access to more than 350 international newspapers, including the New York Times dating back to 1980. It offers access to hard-to-find broadcast transcripts from television and radio networks including PBS. It provides company and financial infromation, SEC filings and reports, and a range of accounting materials. It also provides Shepard's citations, law review articles and news, U.S. Supreme Court, Curcuit and District Court decisions and all federal regulations. Lastly it offers medical information and reference tools, such as an online World Almanac, and opinion polls from the Roper Center.

This new database features access to the Berkshire Eagle, Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Business West, North Adams Transcript, Worcester Telegram & Gazette, the Lowell Sun and more. MAS Ultra: School Edition

MEDLINE EBSCOHost
Authoritative medical information from such fields as medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and pre-clinicial sciences. This vast medical database contains abstracts from over 4,000 current biomedical journals. Some full-text is also available. Created by the National Library of Medicine.

MICROMEDEX Thompson

NCJRS Abstracts Database
The NCJRS Abstracts Database contains summaries of the more than 185,000 criminal justice publications housed in the National Criminal Justice Reference Service Library collection.

Newsbank Comprehensive Newspapers:
Newsbank provides access to full-text staff-written news features, special interest stories, editorials, daily columns, letters to the editor, sports reports and much more in the Springfield Republican and the Springfield Union-News. This database is brought to you by the Springfield Libraries. Pre-Cinahl EBSCOHost
This database is intended to provide current awareness of new journal articles, and includes a rotating file of limited bibliographic information (no subject searching), which are available to researchers only for the time when these articles are being assigned additional indexing.

This database provides full text for more than 60 popular magazines and is designed specifically for elementary school libraries and for students in early childhood education.

Access to Electronic Databases through the Boston Public Library
For a limited time, Massachusetts State Residents can sign up for a temporary Boston Public Library eCard via the web!

BPL eCard is a virtual library card that allow users immediate access to many of the Boston Public Library's electronic databases.

Databases that are available include, America: History & Life, Art Full Text, Dictionary of Literary Biography, HeritageQuest Online, Historical Abstracts, JSTOR, New York Times (1851-2002), PAIS International, Play and Poem Finder and Sociological Abstracts.
