BCC to open a Women’s Center in the Susan B. Anthony Student Engagement Center

Berkshire Community College (BCC) is proud to announce the grand opening of our Women’s Center on International Women’s Day, Thursday, March 8 in the Student Engagement Center in the Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Building.

“Having a Women’s Center has been a BCC goal for a while now,” Beth Wallace, Assistant Dean of Students said. “We brought together faculty, staff and a student to form a committee that met and decided that enhancing emotional, physical and financial wellness were the Women’s Center’s goals.”

Wallace continues, stating “A student support system like the Women’s Center that increases access, fosters student development, leading to healthy individuals, in turn increases retention and persistence, and improves graduation rates.”

On March 8 there is a full slate of activities for guests who want to celebrate the opening of the Women’s Center, including:

A webinar in G-10 at 11:00 a.m. called “#LeadLikeAGirl: Power Moves to Unleash the Potential of Women.” This webinar will help attendees to not only ignite their own impact, but also become a better mentor, leader, co-worker, and parent to this generation of women and the next. FORUM credit for students is available and seating is limited.

Then, at 2:00 p.m., in room A112 of the SBA Bldg., the Women’s Center Ribbon Cutting will take place followed by remarks from Maura Delaney, Interim Vice-President for Academic Affairs. and refreshments.

At 2:45 p.m., guests are invited to the Connector building for opening remarks with Karen Zink, CEO of Berkshire Gas Co., and Alicia Starsja and Liliana Atanacio, both BCC Students.

Then, at 3:00 p.m., two workshops, both offering forum credit, will take place in Hawthorne Hall including:

  • Financial Wellness with Associate Professor of Business, Wendy Meehan
  • Sharing Journeys in the Era of: Time’s Up and #MeToo with Pam Malumphy from PA Malumphy Consulting

Finally, at 4:00 p.m., there will be networking and snacks in the Connector building to wrap up the day.
