Success of Service (SOS) Training

2024 Course Schedule

  • June 14 and 15, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • June 22 and 23, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Cost: Scholarships available for qualified individuals
  • Stipends and Resources: Bus passes, $300 stipend per student * (given only upon completion of full program)
  • Location: In-person at the BCC kitchen facility, 1350 West St. Pittsfield, MA 01201
  • Requirements: Massachusetts resident

Overview

The Culinary and Hospitality industry is dynamic, offering many positions with opportunities for advancement to the ambitious worker. Seasonal positions in the Berkshires play a crucial role in sustaining both the local economy and the vibrant cultural landscape of the region. These positions provide employment opportunities for residents during peak tourist seasons and for many, serve as a gateway to securing permanent roles within the industry both here in Berkshire County and beyond.

The Success of Service (SOS) training teaches the skills needed to build a career in the service industry. Working closely with community partners, SOS prepares candidates for the work ahead, defining roles and standards that will empower them to build success and confidence the service industry.

Training also includes preparation for Certifications/Training:

  • Food Handlers Certification
  • Tips – Alcohol Awareness Certification
  • Allergen Awareness Certification
  • Choke Saver

After finishing the classroom portion of the training, students will move to the second phase with placement at Tanglewood, home to the famous Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the site of one of the world’s best-known music festivals.
