BCC to open a Women’s Center in the Susan B. Anthony Student Engagement Center (rescheduled)

Berkshire Community College (BCC) is proud to announce the grand opening of our Women’s Center Tuesday, April 17, in the Student Engagement Center in the Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Building.

“Having a Women’s Center has been a BCC goal for a while now,” Beth Wallace, Assistant Dean of Students said. “We brought together faculty, staff and a student to form a committee that met and decided that enhancing emotional, physical and financial wellness were the Women’s Center’s goals.”

Wallace continues, stating “A student support system like the Women’s Center that increases access, fosters student development, leading to healthy individuals, in turn increases retention and persistence, and improves graduation rates.”

On April 17: the day will begin with a screening of Girl Rising: The Power of Stories to Change the World, at 12:15 p.m. in the Connector with guest speaker Christina Lowery, who is the CEO of Girl Rising and is passionate about narrative storytelling as an engine of social awareness. Lowery has decades of experience in documentary film and television. The screening is about the belief that storytelling can be a transformational catalyst for impact and long-term social change and collects stories about extraordinary girls from all over the world.

Then, at 1:30 p.m., in room A112 of the SBA Bldg., the Women’s Center Ribbon Cutting will take place followed by opening remarks and refreshments
