STEM Starter Academy at BCC

The Berkshire Community College STEM Starter Academy Program is geared toward incoming freshman interested in high-demand careers in a variety of STEM fields. Each cohort of STEM Scholars will gain transition-to-college skills and develop college success strategies that will give them the tools they need to be STEM-ready in college and in the workplace. 


Summer & Fall Opportunities

The BCC STEM Academy includes two sessions that will prepare students for academic success at BCC and beyond — the Summer Success Program and the Fall Support Program. Both are held on BCC's Main Campus.

Summer Success Program

July 23 - July 28, 2018
BCC STEM 101 (mandatory for all students in the academy)

July 30 - August 3, 2018
STEM Exploration (not mandatory but highly recommended and encouraged)

June 18 - August 26, 2018
Participate in the summer jump Start program if not yet college ready in Math

The STEM Summer Success Program includes:

  • 1 college credit
  • Hands-on STEM activities
  • Math remediation (if needed or desired)
  • Career exploration
  • College success strategies
  • Guest speakers
  • Field trips
  • Advising
  • Educational planning
  • STEM Academy Success Kit 
  • Scholarships for Fall 2017

Fall Support Program

Pending grant approval, the 2018 STEM Fall Support Program will include the following activities:

  • Monthly group meetings
  • Peer mentoring
  • Monthly academic progess reports
  • Faculty/STEM advising
  • Service-Learning
  • Seminars
  • STEM Starter activities on- and off-campus
  • Tutoring
  • Field trips
  • Scholarships for Spring 2018
