Academic Coaching

Students receiving guidance at the One Stop Center at BCC.

What is academic coaching?

BCC coaches engage with students one-on-one to discover and develop solutions that fit their life and priorities through personalized plans of action. By working with a coach, students will be able to:

  • Identify and articulate their academic strengths and areas for growth;
  • Identify and utilize campus resources;
  • Develop skills and strategies to meet academic and personal goals; and
  • Create a plan to achieve their goals.

Coaches work with students in ways that support their needs. Some students meet with a coach once a semester, some once a week. On campus and virtual meeting options are available. Coaching is not intended to add your plate, but to help you clean your plate!

What activities and services are offered through the coaching programs?

Each coaching program varies, but students have opportunities for:

  • One-on-one sessions to develop success strategies
  • Educational workshops
  • Social and community building events
  • Resource referrals
  • Career and transfer connections
  • Academic support
  • Technology support
  • Study groups

What are the benefits of working with a coach?

  • Individualized support tailored to your needs
  • Academic, career and personal enrichment opportunities
  • Feeling connected to BCC
  • Improved interpersonal skills
  • Engagement with other students who share similar goals and interests
  • Increased confidence in your own skills
