BCC Launches 'Foundations of Mental Health' Training Program
When Williams College psychology major Allison Li connected with Elena Nuciforo, Director of Workforce Development: Healthcare at Berkshire Community College (BCC), she was looking for ways to fulfill the experiential component of her public health concentration. She told Nuciforo about her interest in public mental health, and an idea was born: Nuciforo suggested that Li design a training program to teach customer service professionals about mental health conditions, treatment and support resources, and strategies for working with people facing mental health challenges. Combining research and information gleaned from her psychology courses, Li developed Foundations of Mental Health, a multi-session virtual training that incorporates interactive activities, roleplays and videos. The next step was finding the first company to partake in the training. The Big Y supermarket in Pittsfield agreed, and a partnership formed.
BCC Welcomes New Exhibit to Koussevitzky Art Gallery
BCC announces a new installation in Koussevitzky Art Gallery entitled "The Body Politic" by artist Suzanne Lacke. The installation, on view Friday, November 19 through Monday, December 20, explores the body, clothing and the urban scene with both boldly colored paintings and soft-hued sketches. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm
BCC Announces Vaccination Requirement for In-person Students
BCC announces a deadline of Monday, January 3 for all returning students attending in-person classes to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus and show proof of vaccination status. Following the same guidelines, the College is requesting that new students for the spring semester provide vaccination information within the admission process when accepted after January 3 and be fully vaccinated by the beginning of classes on January 24, 2022. BCC is one of 15 community colleges in the Commonwealth, all of which now require vaccinations to attend spring semester classes.
New Recording Studio Opens at BCC
The Berkshires has long been a haven for creative professionals, including a wide variety of musicians. In the spirit of keeping that legacy alive, Berkshire Community College (BCC) recently completed construction of a new recording studio in the Koussevitzky Arts Center.
BCC Welcomes New Baby Lungfish to Campus
The Environmental and Life Sciences program at Berkshire Community College (BCC) has a new resident: a young African lungfish. The lungfish (Protopterus annectens), which arrived from a Californian breeder in mid-September, lives in an aquarium in the Ralph Hoffmann Environmental Science and Sustainable Energy Center.
